“It is overwhelming given the number of competitors per category, thus it does not end here. We all know that we still need a lot of honing to do, for we don’t want to settle for anything less,” Ms. Aiki H. Konno, The Dominican Gazette adviser, said as her writers qualify for DSPC.
Nineteen journalists from the Dominican College of Tarlac (DCT) qualified in the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) after winning top places in the recently concluded Private Schools Press Conference (PSPC) held at Gerona Institute, August 11-13.
First placers were Franz De Aquino (Sports Writing – English), Justin De Leon (Copy Reading and Headline Writing – English), Samantha Gonzales (News Writing – English), Crislyn Gacias (Photo Journalism – Filipino), Marie Con Saldi (Science Writing – Filipino), Klevince Sarmiento (Sports Writing – Filipino), and Niña Villarosa (News Writing – Filipino).
Christine Camara (Copy Reading and Headline Writing – English), Faces Cruz (News Writing – Filipino), and Alyssa Guinto (Photo Journalism – Filipino) won 2nd place, while Cheska Chua (Editorial Cartooning – English), Paolo Gomez (News Writing – English), Prince Canlas (Sports Writing – Filipino), and Yna Mae Ocampo (News Writing – Filipino) bagged 3rd place.
Other qualifiers were Kyla Miranda (Feature Writing – English), Christopher Luciano (Editorial Cartooning – English), 4th placers; James Sicat (Sports Writing – English), 5th placer; Darrel Arandia (Editorial Cartooning – Filipino) and Cyrella Perez (News Writing – Filipino), 6th placers.
Ella Isais (Editorial Writing – Filipino) and Eireene Pamintuan (Science Writing – Filipino) were awarded 9th place for their respective categories.
Only those who got the first to sixth places in the individual categories along with the champions in the group categories will advance in DSPC.
Moreover, DCT will represent Alliance of Private Schools in Tarlac Province (APSTaP) in Television Broadcasting competition, a newly implemented category, which aims to enhance the speaking, writing, and editing skills of the journalists.
Furthermore, DSPC will be held on September 26-30 at Tarlac National High School.

Another event had happened inside the DCT campus as the students celebrated the annual Acquaintance Party last July 22. Party’s theme “Elegance in Simplicity” was highlighted by the Trumpet dance challenge. The Annual set of new leaders for the different positions of SSC Organization to lead the way of their fellow Dominicans was inducted and took their Oath of Office at the St. Nicolas Parish Church with the goal of “to promote unity, assertiveness and development among students on the 30th day of June, 2016.”Read more
